A look ahead to what’s on at The Welcoming this week…

Saturday 17 November, Creative Space
Every Saturday, 12-4pm on the 5th floor at The Welcoming 
Join us at Creative Space this week where we will be making some decorations for our New Scots event, as well as taking some time to practise performances, share stories and poems. All welcome!

Saturday 10 November (10am – 12 noon), Sunday 11 November (11am – 1pm) Digital Skills for Arabic Speakers
These classes are delivered in Arabic and English and are a great way to gain confidence with using computers for email, internet, shopping, banking and creating all kinds of documents. Spaces are limited so please call the Welcoming office on 346 8577 or email [email protected] to book your place.

Monday 19 November, Open Book Reading Group 
10-12pm, 5th floor at The Welcoming
It’s National Book Week! What better time to join for our reading group. Join us every week as we discover new authors and stories together. This is a lovely way to meet new people and enjoy reading together.

Every Monday, 10.30-12.30, Oxgangs Library, EH13 9LY
Join us for a new weekly women’s cafe, at Oxgangs Library! This fun, free, friendly group is for any women in Edinburgh who would like to meet up, meet new people and explore different cultures. Children welcome!

Drop in to Leon’s employment workshop for a chat about what support you need with your CV, interview prep or application writing. He will be able to refer you for a 1 to 1 appointment with more support.

Monday 19 November, Creative Writing Workshop
Is there a story you want to tell in English and need help with it? We’re very excited to host a one-off creative writing session at The Welcoming that might help you with this! On Monday 19th November you will have an opportunity to practise your English writing skills and how you communicate in written form. This gathering will help you craft a beautiful story for you to share  -you might even want to share it at our New Scots Celebration! This is free and everyone is welcome, just pop by. Tuesday 20 November, Gym & Swim Session
3-5pm, Leith Victoria Gym & Swimming Pool
Our weekly gym and swim session has a new day! We will meet at Leith Victoria at 3pm (there will not be a meeting point at The Welcoming), for our workout session! Join us to use the gym, or have a relaxing swim, for just £1.

Tuesday 20 November, Games Night
Every Tuesday, 5-7pm, 5th floor at The Welcoming
Join us for our weekly games night on the 5th floor! We have a range of activities available, including table tennis, pool and a great selection of board games.

Wednesday 21 November, Scotland for Newcomers – Surgeon’s Hall
Meet at 3pm at The Welcoming or at the museum (EH8 9DW) at 3.45pm
Join us on Wednesday for a trip to the Surgeons Hall Museums where we’ll discover how doctors used to help people in the past (!)

Wednesday 21 November, Jogging Group
6pm at The Welcoming
Are you a keen runner or want to get started? Join us for a gentle run from The Welcoming. New joggers are always welcome, please email [email protected] first to let her know you’re coming and to indicate your level. If you would like to join us but are worried about not having the right shoes/clothing come to the office to have a chat in confidence. We may be able to help!

Wednesday 21 November – Singing Group
Every Wednesday, 7.30-9pm at St Martins Community Resource Centre, 232 Dalry Road
Singing in a group is a fun way to practise English, meet new people and simply feel happier! Come along to our free and relaxed Singing Group every Wednesday at 7.30pm at St Martins Community Resource Centre, 232 Dalry Road. It’s a short walk from The Welcoming and you’ll have an opportunity to meet locals and newcomers while you sing together to some amazing tunes. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. Just pop by!

Thursday 22 November, Wee Blether
Every Thursday, 3.30-5pm, 5th floor at The Welcoming
Join our new weekly conversation activity, The Wee Blether! This is a chance to enjoy informal conversations within a small comfortable group. The session is run by volunteers Pirjo and Eva. There will be 8 spaces per week, but you don’t need to book in advance.

Friday 23 November, Welcoming Lunch
12.15-1.15, 1st floor at The Welcoming
Come along to the first floor and join us for a friendly, relaxed lunch. We will have a selection of sandwiches and salads from Pret, we look forward to seeing you all there!

Friday 23 November, Conversation Cafe
1.30-3.30pm, 1st floor at The Welcoming
Join us for our weekly Conversation Cafe! This is a chance to meet new people, and chat with local volunteers. Each week we will have a new topic for activities and discussion.

Friday 23 November, New Scots Celebration

6.30-10.30pm, Kings Hall, South Clerk St
People of Edinburgh, newcomers to Edinburgh…Come along to this exciting night of dance and entertainment to celebrate cultural diversity in our beautiful city, in occasion of St. Andrew’s Day.
This event will take place on Friday 23rd November at the King’s Hall, from 6.30pm to 10.30pm. We will have a magician performing, Seven Hills Ceilidh playing for our traditional ceilidh dances, and performances of stories, poems, songs and more! We hope you can join us!
