The Welcoming is committed to supporting learning as widely as possible and we enjoy working with students, researchers, policy makers and practitioners across a wide range of disciplines.
We regularly host and supervise students on placement from the University of Edinburgh MA (Honours) Learning in Communities programme. We have also hosted students on placements for other programmes.
We contribute to consultations on a wide range of policy and practice issues including fuel poverty, ESOL, migration and refugee integration.
Research for projects and dissertation
We provide opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students to carry out research for projects and dissertation studies. These must be well designed, meet institutional ethical requirements, and be of potential benefit to our participants or the wider field of study.
In recent months, we have supported students on degree programmes in graphic design, social geography, social policy, community music, social anthropology, photography, ESOL and psychology.
Visiting practitioners and academics
We welcome visiting practitioners and academics from around the world to visit our service and share ideas and approaches.
Please note that we are a small staff team and a very busy service – unfortunately, we do not always have capacity to support the requests that we receive.
If you would like to enquire about research opportunities or arrange a visit to the Welcoming, please email [email protected] with details of your project and the timescales involved.
