Senior Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator
Hours: 21 hours per week (with potential to increase to full-time after 6 -12 months)
Contract: 2 years (with possibility of extension, subject to funding)
Location: Edinburgh (office-based with some flexibility)
Salary: £32,066 – £35,316 pro-rata (depending on experience)
About the role
Are you passionate about bringing people together? Do you want to advocate for inclusion, combat misinformation, and support communities to thrive?
We’re looking for a Senior Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator to lead a new and significant area of work at The Welcoming Association.
Working closely with our CEO, this role will develop and deliver proactive community cohesion efforts, at a time when Scotland needs them more than ever. You’ll help build stronger connections between local communities and New Scots (refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants) through advocacy, engagement, and collaboration with partner organisations.
This is a new post and an exciting opportunity to shape our approach. We are initially advertising for 21 hours per week, with the role funded for two years. Depending on demand, there may be potential to increase to full-time.
Key responsibilities
- Lead community engagement and advocacy initiatives to strengthen cohesion between host communities and New Scots.
- Work with the CEO to design and deliver a proactive advocacy strategy.
- Develop partnerships with local authorities, third-sector organisations, and community groups.
- Support New Scots and local residents to have their voices heard in local and national conversations.
- Represent The Welcoming at external events, networks, and forums.
About you
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong experience in community engagement, advocacy, or related fields.
- The ability to build positive relationships with diverse communities and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence in public speaking and facilitation.
- A strategic mindset and the ability to translate ideas into practical action.
- A commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
