We’re excited to announce the launch of a new Useful Resources section on our website – a dedicated space where New Scots and community members can easily access helpful, multilingual information about life in Edinburgh and Scotland.
From understanding the housing system to learning more about cultural traditions, the resources were created with care and collaboration, designed to support people settling into a new country and navigating important day-to-day issues.
The page currently includes:
- Homelessness system in Edinburgh – developed in collaboration with Shelter, available in Arabic, English, Pashto and Ukrainian.
- Temporary accommodation guide – explaining rights, support options and advice, also available in multiple languages.
- Cultural tips sheet – a friendly introduction to local customs, traditions and everyday etiquette for newcomers.
These guides are especially useful for individuals facing challenges around housing or adjusting to life in a new country, and we’re proud to be making them as accessible and easy to understand as possible.
“At The Welcoming Association, we believe in creating practical resources that are co-designed with our members and informed by expert partners,” says Jenni Flett, Communications & Campaigns Coordinator. “By working closely with organisations like Shelter and listening to what our community tells us they need, we’re developing materials that can really support New Scots in their everyday lives. This is just the beginning, we’ll be adding more resources in future, covering even more topics relevant to our members.”
