Our staff team are dedicated to supporting asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in Edinburgh.

We have a wide range of skills and experience, including language teaching, group facilitation and project management.

We are led by a Board of Directors, our Chief Executive Officer, Tesfu Gessesse and the Senior Leadership Team.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Tesfu Gessesse

Tesfu is responsible for providing the team with strategic direction and vision to achieve the organisation's mission. He collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, leads programmes and initiatives, and oversees day-to-day operations to ensure the effective functioning of all projects and programmes, financial resources, budgeting, and narrative reporting. Tesfu encourages a collaborative and inclusive organisational culture.
 
In addition, as part of our Organisational Advocacy and External Relations efforts, Tesfu represents the Welcoming Association in external forums, conferences, and events. He also builds and maintains strong relationships with government agencies, voluntary organisations, and community partners and advocates for policies that align with the charity's mission.

Chiara Puppi
Managing our Friendship programme, arranging befriending matches, coordinating friendship groups and volunteers. Supporting the Director with managing staff and projects.
Training and Employability Lead
Sandra Dargie

Sandra manages our Training and Employability provision. These programmes aim to support The Welcoming Association's New Scot service users in developing their English language skills, accessing work, volunteering, and training opportunities that match their skills, qualifications, and interests. Sandra supports the Chief Executive Officer with managing staff and projects.

Technical Supporters

Finance Manager

Managing our finances and bookkeeping. Preparing budgets and management accounts. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, external stakeholders and funders.

Admin and HR Manager

Responsible for HR management and day-to-day operations of the office. Acting as first point of contact for new service users, volunteers and visitors. Responding to enquiries and new registrations.
