As we celebrate Black History Month 2020 at The Welcoming Association, we acknowledge and celebrate the achievements and contributions of the many Black people in Scotland and elsewhere.

However, 2020 has been a challenging year for Black people all over the world, with the murder of George Floyd in the USA, the shocking incident of Mercy Baguma (an asylum seeker from Uganda who was found dead in her flat in Scotland with her malnourished child crying beside her) and the adverse impact of Covid-19 on Black communities.

We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, volunteers and newcomers, and we encourage everyone to access the resources on the Black History Month Scotland website and take learnings from this month into the rest of the year and beyond.
